GOOSSEN INKS KARPENKO

In their continued drive to building and bringing the best and most exciting boxing stable to the public -- heavily populated with world heavyweight title caliber pedigree – it was announced today Goossen Tutor Promotions has signed Ukrainian heavyweight Sergey Karpenko.

“American sports fans have, and always will be looking for that next great heavyweight, no matter where he’s from, as long as they bring excitement and punching power inside the ring,” noted promoter Dan Goossen.

“Being the amateur standout he was, we believe ‘SK’ will provide that same heavyweight excitement in the pros and we’re anxious to let the fans get their first look at him to see for themselves.”

Karpenko will make his pro debut on Goossen Tutor’s March 5th boxing event at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA.

Born in the central Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia, the 24-year old Karpenko is a strapping 6-4, 232-pound orthodox-style heavyweight who is currently living in and fighting out of Big Bear, CA. Prior to coming to America, Karpenko compiled an impressive 80-15 record as an amateur in a career -- begun at age 13 -- which saw him become a three-time Ukrainian National Champion and 2003 World Junior Champion.

“I am very excited for my first fight,” Karpenko, who faces Alvaro Morales (3-6-5, Las Vegas, NV), acknowledged. “I’ve a great team around me in my managers Ivaylo Gotzev and Les Cohen, promoter Dan Goossen and trainer Abel Sanchez. I want to go all the way to the top and I can’t wait to step in a professional ring at Pechanga on the 5th.”

“Goossen Tutor and my management group have a very common goal in boxing and that is to always be around top heavyweights,” Ivaylo Gotzev, Karpenko’s co-manager stated. “And Goossen Tutor has proved to me they know how to move heavyweights and provide them with big opportunities. They’ve got (Eddie) Chambers going to fight for a world title. Before that there was Chris Arreola. And before that there was Tony Thompson. There were many promoters interested worldwide, but I believe that with Karpenko signing with Goossen Tutor, it’s the best move and that we’ll go to the top together.”
